At Obelisk, we do not confuse sponsorship with philanthropy. Sponsors are only approached when we are confident they will achieve significant commercial returns.
We are also aware that sponsorship should not be confused with advertising; sponsorship may not always communicate specific product attributes, nor can it stand alone.
We want the sponsor and the beneficiary to become synonymous through their partnership, so that encountering the brand will trigger event-linked associations. We believe the best effects are achieved when there is a clear brand affinity between the two parties.
However, we have found that ‘brands with a difference’ can still benefit, in terms of memory effect, if we successfully articulate the rationale for the sponsorship to the audience.
